The Sky and the Sea
Set in The Kampong —a historic garden shaped by generations of scientists and botanists—The Nature of Blue explores our evolving relationship with nature through the lens of science and the color blue.
Blue flows through the exhibition like a quiet river, linking artworks with themes of contemplation, depth, and reverence for the Earth. Artists embrace natural materials—rainwater, lapis lazuli, and indigo—highlighting slow, organic processes like fermentation and oxidation.
Historic instruments such as the cyanometer are revisited to trace the shifting blues of Biscayne Bay, while cyanotypes echo botanical studies with impressions from The Kampong’s tropical flora. Honoring the scientific legacy of this place, the exhibition invites reflection, care, and renewed connection to the rhythms of the natural world.
